Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council commissioned Coastway Surveys to carry out a sub-surface survey of the sewer chambers and pipe network in Dun Laoghaire. The purpose of the survey was to ascertain the condition and flow of manholes following significant local flooding. Operatives had undergone confined space training and were aware of the hazard of flash flooding whilst surveying.
Using an inverted tripod, Coastway scanned multiple manhole chambers at varying depths to provide a full 3D point cloud and video of the condition of the chambers. Using this approach, negated the requirement for operatives to enter the chambers. The resultant data set allowed dimensions and condition of the network to be determined.
