In early 2013 Coastway Surveys was appointed by GECO Engineering on behalf of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Cultural Authority to carry out a 3D Laser Scan Survey of three areas within the Qasr al Hosn Cultural Quarter.

Survey data were required to produce 3D models of all three areas for planning and redesign purposes. The three areas that were laser scanned included two areas connected by an external walkway which formed part of the cultural centre with the third area being the isolated building of the Council Chamber.

The scans were processed to produce a fully rendered 3D model of each building. The Mosque itself was dismantled and moved to another location as part of the redesign program and the model produced by Coastway Surveys was used to ensure that it was rebuilt at the new location exactly replicating the original building.
